From an early age, Dan has always struggled with reading. Reading did not come naturally to him, and it took him until 2nd grade to gain an ability to read. Since then though, his love of reading has grown and expanded. He know enjoys reading novels by a wide variety of authors. People read because it gives them a unique way to experience the emotions and ideas of others, as well as their own. Reading allows us to blend ideas and feelings in unique ways, and expand our imaginations. Today, reading is easy for Dan, because when he sits down with a good book, he can completely immerse himself in the story. The hardest part of reading for him has always been getting excited about a book. Often times Dan looks for classic novels and works when looking for a new book, as he tends to draw new interests from them. Dan really enjoys reading, and wishes he could find more time in his busy schedule to read more often.
As part of his long struggle early in his life trying to learn to read, Dan developed writing skills later than most of his peers, and due to being left handed, grew a great aversion to writing by hand (as was mandated by his teachers) as spiral notebooks would hurt, and he would end up with ink/graphite on his hands. Dan never really developed a love or enjoyment for writing until around Middle School, when his teachers started having him write on the computer. He found that the keyboard allowed him more flexibility and was much more comfortable, allowing him to translate his thoughts into written word much more easily. People write to share their ideas, their thoughts, the very essence of what makes them unique. Words are eternal, and leaving behind writings is a great way to make one's Ideas eternal. To write well, people need to have a good grasp of the english language (or whichever language they use) but more importantly, a good grasp of themselves. They need the ability to translate their thoughts into words, and present those thoughts in a manner that makes sense. Dan tends to enjoy creative writing, but has always felt his strength was in writing opinion pieces and essays on subjects he knows well. when he writes fiction, he prefers historical, realistic fiction. Dan often finds his inspiration in his own experiences, but also draws a lot of inspiration from real world events, both from history, and from current events. Dan finds thoughtful criticisms most helpful in his writing, as he recognizes there are many people around him with great insight, and more skill than him, who can help him improve his writing. Dan tends to write essays and articles while at home about various subjects, he likes to frequent rocketry and spaceflight forums, and has written a couple articles on basic rocket design. Dan always feels like his writing has room to improve, and often finds himself dissatisfied with his own work.
